Artificial Sphincters

Artificial sphincters are device surgically implanted in an individual to treat various types of urinary incontinence or severe bowel incontinence. It may consist of a cuff placed around the bulbar urethra or bladder neck, a pressure regulating balloon, and a pump. In the bowel, it is designed to mimic the anal sphincter muscles.
